It's that time of year again, and you can support the RSPB to understand the health of the UK's bird population by taking part in this great event for just one hour.

Can I do the RSPB birdwatch at Whitlingham?

Absolutely!

The name suggests it is just for your garden at home, but you can choose any appropriate space to take part.

How to Participate at Whitlingham Country Park:

  1. Choose Your Spot:

Find a bench or a quiet area in your local park where you can observe birds for an hour

  2. Set Your Time:

Pick any hour during the main event to watch

  3. Count & Record:

Note the maximum number of each bird species you see at any one time. They must be on the ground (or settled on water) - do not count any birds seen only in flight

  4. Submit Your Data:

Send your observations to the RSPB online or by post to contribute

Sign up for your pack here and follow their instructions for how to submit your results:

Key Things to Remember:

  • Not Just Gardens: Parks, balconies, and any outdoor space will work perfectly too!

  • Free & For Everyone: No RSPB membership or donation is required

  • It's About Insight: Your hour helps build a picture of how UK birds are doing

Ask the experts

You may see an RSPB stall pop up at the park in early January. Weather permitting, their staff will be on site to answer your questions and give you more information on 2nd January 2026.

Wishing all our visitors a very happy new year and all the best for 2026.

Let's hope our wildlife has a great year too!
