What an honour to have been awarded the Green Flag award for quality for the second year in a row. This award is most often achieved by council-run green spaces, so we are especially proud to have achieved it as an independent, charity-run park.

What is the Green Flag award?
Whitlingham Country Park is one of 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces. The news that Whitlingham Country Park has met the high standards required for the accreditation is testament to the hard work and dedication of our team of staff and volunteers that care for the green space so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy it.
Any green space that is freely accessible to the public is eligible to enter for a Green Flag Award. Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag Award status. It is a judgement of excellent visitor facilities and quality management of a publicly accessible green space.
The award scheme is run by Keep Britain Tidy, which is a leading environmental charity. They set the standard for the management of parks and beaches, inspire people to be litter-free, to waste less and live more sustainably. Visit www.keepbritaintidy.org to find out more about them.
How is it judged?
Inspectors visit the park and walk round with members of our team, thoroughly discussing the park management plans, safety, measures visitor experience and projects in thorough detail. They don't just give these awards away!
Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said:
"Congratulations to everyone involved at Whitlingham Country Park who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.
“Quality parks and green spaces like Whitlingham make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.
“Crucially, Whitlingham is a vital green space for communities in the Norwich area to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”
A huge well done to our park management team for all their hard work in this achievement, and to our staff and volunteers for ensuring that our park is a fantastic place to be.
Here's the whole list of winners from the East of England, if you're interested. You'll certainly notice the huge number of council managed winners. There are only a handful of independent parks, including Whitlingham!
Keep enjoying and looking after this wonderful green space with us! 💚
