Phoenix build's heritage team have been busy restoring and replacing lost flints into the structure of Trowse Newton Hall during spring 2026. This fantastic ruin has sadly been closed to the public for over a year in anticipation of this remedial work. We're delighted to say that the ruins are now back open for visitors!
Where are these ruins?
Trowse Newton Hall ruins are situated next to the barn meadow at the bottom of the lime avenue, by the Flint Barn Café. Follow the avenue of lime trees down towards the water and you'll find the ruins secluded among the trees near the Great Broad path.
How to enjoy this beautiful spot
There are lots of great ways to engage with the ruins and the history of Whitlingham Country Park:
Take a stroll through the gates and enjoy the cool tranquillity of this shady spot just off the Great Broad path. Let your eyes wander and take in all the shapes within the flintwork as you relax on the grass. If you have a picnic in this lovely spot, please use the bins near Flint Barn Café for rubbish disposal. Thank you for respecting this beautiful space.
Come and join in events among the ruins. To celebrate the re-opening, we have True Stories Live coming up on 21st June - hosted by Norwich Arts Centre. Quirky, inspiring, entertaining and cosy, gather your friends and join them for a wild evening of true stories from people just like you!
There's a brilliant open air theatre production on 2nd August too. Quill & Inkling theatre will be staging The Cursed Ring, a Viking Tale. Their productions are always great fun. Come and check it out!
The ruins date back to the 1400s and have a great range of stories to tell. Join us for a Heritage Open Days talk on 15th September and find out all about the rich and varied history of this structure and its inhabitants. It's FREE to attend, but tickets are limited, so grab them quick when they launch. They'll be available from 10am on August 26th 2026 on our website at Tickets | Whitlingham.
