Whitlingham Country Park - Park Ranger

Salary: £21,500-£25,000 based on experience (maternity cover 1 year)

A Ranger is required to assist with the practical maintenance and management of Whitlingham Country Park including, supervision of volunteers, contributing to the events programme and to lead visiting schools and groups. Good practical skills will be needed to assist with the routine and cyclic maintenance of the Park. Excellent communication skills are also required as well as a flexible approach to working hours. We are looking for a candidate with a range of these skills who, during this period of maternity cover, can maintain the momentum created by our present team.

About You
  • Multi-skilled with proven practical countryside experience, ideally 3 years
  • Competent use of general grounds maintenance machinery – 3 years
  • Extensive knowledge of estate skills
  • Previous experience of working with volunteers and volunteer groups
  • A current full driving licence
  • NPTC CS30 and CS31 Chainsaw qualification
  • LANTRA Brush cutter qualification
About Us
Whitlingham Country Park is situated just outside Norwich near the village of Trowse, Norfolk. Covering an area of 280 acres including woodlands and grasslands, the Park is operated by Whitlingham Charitable Trust on a 100-year lease granted by the Crown Point Estate in 1992.

Vacancies for trustees to join Whitlingham Charitable Trust

In collaboration with the Whitlingham Charitable Trust, the Broads Authority is looking to appoint four trustees to join the Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a role in the development and management of the very successful Whitlingham Country Park on the edge of Norwich. The Park is adored by city folk and countryside lovers alike, offering a beautiful, tranquil escape to explore the woodlands and meadows or to just relax.

The Whitlingham Charitable Trust was established in 1988 to manage and conserve Whitlingham Country Park for the recreation and enjoyment of members of the public who wish to enjoy its amenities for quiet and peaceful pursuits in a rural environment.

Applications should include a supporting statement (no more than 2 sides of A4) on how you meet the required skills and experience, together with your contact details. These should be sent to committees@broads-authority.gov.uk
The closing date for applications is 16 June, with interviews held on 22 June 2023.
A list of recommended candidates will be presented to the Broads Authority meeting on 28 July 2023 for approval.

Whitlingham Country Park 24 Hour Visitor Moorings
Whitlingham Moorings are now under the management of the Whitlingham Charitable Trust and will be closed to the public from the end of October and through the winter. We look forward to welcoming our boating visitors back at Easter.
Step out of Norwich Station and look for the signs to the Wherryman's Way or jump on a Beryl Bike and follow National Cycle Network Route 1.
Only 2.3 miles to Whitlingham Country Park.

Research on floating litter

BETWEEN 5TH - 19TH AUGUST 2021, WHITLINGHAM COUNTRY PARK
IS TAKING PART IN A RESEARCH PROJECT, LED BY CEFAS,
FOCUSING ON FLOATING LITTER. THIS WORK UNDERPINS
THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 14.1.1
ON TACKLING PLASTIC POLLUTION, WHICH IS A MAJOR OCEAN
HEALTH ISSUE. THE EXPERIMENT WILL TAKE PLACE IN
THE GREAT WHITLINGHAM BROAD TO COLLECT DATA FOR
TRAINING MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHMS FROM DRONES AND
SATELLITES. THIS IS A KEY STEP TOWARDS AN INTEGRATED MONITORING
AND REDUCTION OF PLASTIC IN THE ENVIRONMENT.

It's still wet & windy!

The met office  yellow warning for wind has ended but the weather is still wet and windy,
it may be hazardous to enter the Park under extreme weather conditions.

Whitlingham Barn Cafe

Start Your Day Right

open from 9am-5pm
offering takeaway drinks, cakes and hot snacks from the door. 
The outside toilet facilities will be open during café opening hours. 

"Excuse me, you dropped something!"

Help us to keep the Park tidy and litter free. You brought it with you
​so please take it home if you cant find a bin,
​ or you find the bins are full.

Staff and volunteers shouldn't have to pick up
face masks and wet wipes, its not nice and its not safe.
We're not out of this yet.

A Weather Warning for strong wind has been issued by the MET Office.
The warning will be in place from 2100 Wednesday 10th of March until 1500 Thursday 11th March .
For your safety Whitlingham Country Park paths and woods will be closed between these times.
We apologise for any inconvenience.

Accessibility 
Please be aware that the persistent wet weather and increased foot fall is
having a damaging effect on the paths around the Great Broad and Woods.
Wheelchair users will find circumnavigating the Broad challenging if not impossible.
All visitors are advised to wear suitable footwear.
